Measles Virus (MeV)
Viral Structure, Key Antigen Targets and Research Applications

Measles virus structure (Viruses. 2016 Oct 22;8(10):294)
Overview
Measles virus (MeV) is an enveloped, negative-sense single-stranded RNA virus belonging to the genus Morbillivirus within the family Paramyxoviridae. It is the causative agent of measles, a highly contagious infectious disease. MeV research focuses on viral entry, replication, antigen recognition, immune responses, and antibody-mediated neutralization.
The viral surface glycoproteins Hemagglutinin (H) and Fusion protein (F) are key determinants of receptor binding and membrane fusion, making them important targets for studies of viral infection mechanisms and neutralizing antibodies.
The MeV genome is approximately 15.9 kb and encodes six major structural proteins: N (Nucleoprotein), P (Phosphoprotein), M (Matrix protein), F (Fusion protein), H (Hemagglutinin protein), and L (Large polymerase protein). These proteins coordinate viral attachment, entry, RNA replication, assembly, and release.
Measles Virus Structure
Measles virus is an enveloped, pleomorphic virus containing a non-segmented, negative-sense RNA genome. The viral envelope contains two major surface glycoproteins: H protein, responsible for receptor recognition, and F protein, which mediates membrane fusion.
