Description
Desmoglein 1 (DSG1), the Pemphigus Foliaceus (PF) antigen, is produced as a precursor (preDSG1) and is transported to the cell surface as the mature form (matDSG1). Pemphigus foliaceus (PF) is an organ-specific autoimmune cutaneous disease characterized clinically by the development of superficial blisters and erosions of skin, histologically by loss of cell adhesion of keratinocytes in the upper part of epidermis, and immunologically by in vivo bound and circulating IgG autoantibodies directed against desmoglein 1 (Dsg1), a transmembrane desmosomal glycoprotein to the cadherin family.
