Abstract

SARS-CoV-2 variants of concern (VOCs) have prolonged the COVID-19 pandemic by evading pre-existing immunity from natural infection or vaccination. This study analyzed mutations and prevalence of VOCs in the context of global immunization coverage. A pseudovirus neutralization assay for the prototype strain (PS) and VOCs (Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Delta, and Omicron) was constructed. Omicron showed the highest neutralization escape against serum samples and therapeutic monoclonal antibodies, indicating a need for updated control measures. Findings provide insights into managing the evolving COVID-19 pandemic.
